An uninteresting wall gets transformed - with more glass box buildings going up in the city, there is more of this kind of spectacular ‘visual echoing’
Blue Ridge Mill (revisited)

A painting from the second series of work that evolved from classic Paint by Numbers sets, this one tiltled ‘Blue Ridge Mill‘ (you can almost picture it). Using the set’s original 42 oil paints, I re-configured the painting into equal alternate stripes. The numbers of the colors are painted in a circular arrangement, so when viewed in sequence, the eyes & head move in a motion echoing the turning of the mill wheel - just as at Blue Ridge Mill

Try and catch the Rebecca Ward show at Peter Blum (176 Grand St), titled ‘vector specter’ The pieces are abstract, geometric, opaque and see through - they are a mix of re-assembled dyed and painted canvas pieces, stitched together. By stripping the weft of the canvas, an area of the work remains semi-transparent with the stretcher bars visible, adding a sculptural aspect to the pieces.

A nice bit of unintentional interaction - on my way out I noticed how perfectly, at that moment, this piece was echoed in the light and shadow on the blinds in the window - another play on semi-transparency.

Besides the thing I have for postcards of the Colosseum, I am drawn to those of arenas and stadiums - makes sense doesn’t it. It was rewarding to find these of the same stadium, taken from the same spot, when empty and then full.

It’s the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, built for the first of the modern Olympic Games in 1896 . Built on the site of the ancient stadium used for the games of the Panathenaea, it is the only stadium in the world made completely of marble. Now you know.
Thank you! For the beauty and also the accompanying, fascinating information. I was in Athens last October and we visited the arena at night, which was impressive, but I didn’t know it was all solid marble till this minute! Cool
Interesting. Thank you!
