A BUTCHER'S #80
A BUTCHER’S hook/look (Cockney rhyming slang)
A visual excursion - I knew this week was going to be hard as I’m moving around a bit, so I’ve put together an issue of some familiar names in Art - images that I have been putting aside.
school favorites
It’s great to see that young kids in Rome are studying Vincent Van Gogh & Giuseppe Arcimbaldo (you know him - the 16th Italian Mannerist painter who painted portraits made up of vegetables etc).
Walking past a school having its end of year party/exhibition in a closed off street, the wall of sunflower collages caught my eye and it must have been fun to do the Arcimbaldo collage portrait. It’s apparent that there is a very different awareness of art when it’s just a normal part of life.
it’s the yella innit
When it comes to name association, this is not the first thing that comes to mind - hardly ‘The girl with a pearl earring’, more like ‘The machine with the diamond sawtooth blade’.
It’s interesting to see they are referencing ‘Vermeer yellow’ - more on this in a future issue.
classical pipework
As you can imagine, whenever they start digging in Rome, they unearth a lot of history - during recent excavation for the new Metro Station at The Colosseum, they found so much amazing stuff, there’s a museum at the station. Not necessarily of value, just really interesting, is this piece of original Roman plumbing.
This piece marked XX (the installation sequence #) was installed during the co-reign of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus (177-180AD) and was part of the water system ensuring the distribution of clean water.

tubism
The ‘Picasso of plumbing’ - call him when you need a copper piping ‘creation’. “We call him Joey Picasso - He takes plumbing to the level of an art form. He can do it all.”
One man’s Picasso is another man’s plumbing - it’s just a bit ‘apples & oranges’ really!
meanwhile on the beach
Speaking of Picasso - this piece of coral on the beach in Mexico must have been at just the right angle as I made this connection the moment I picked it up.
in the pink
A furry piece by Li-Ming Dynasty in this year’s Every Woman Biennial show - an event put together by friend and artist, Finley. Fantastique.
